(January 6, 2010) Children’s Hospital of Illinois in association with the Illinois Department of Transportation-Division of Traffic Safety is announcing the 3rd Annual Be a Buckle Buddy! Public Service Announcement (PSA) Contest for College and University Students. Individual student, or teams of up to four, will submit fully produced radio or television PSA’s to Children’s Hospital of Illinois by 4:30PM on Friday March 26th, 2010. PSA’s will be judges on script quality, cohesion with the Be A Buckle Buddy! message, production quality, and talent performance.
Radio and Television entries will compete for the same prizes. The Illinois Department of Transportation – Division of Traffic Safety has provided a single financial award of $1000 for first place, a single financial award of $500 for second place, and a single financial award of $250 for third place. In addition to the financial award, the winning PSA will be distributed to Illinois media outlets.
Students throughout the state of Illinois are able to go online to www.bucklebuddy.org and download the contest entry forms as well as program materials.
“Be A Buckle Buddy!” is a public service program featuring a statewide, toll-free, non-punitive hotline, 1-888-800-2642, and website, www.bucklebuddy.org, which any concerned individual in Illinois may use to anonymously report an unrestrained or improperly restrained child passenger in a motor vehicle..

Second Annual Be A Buckle Buddy! PSA Contest Winners Announced

Subject: Second annual statewide Be A Buckle Buddy! PSA contest winners announced.

(April 29, 2009) Children’s Hospital of Illinois in association the Illinois Department of Transportation-Division of Traffic Safety (IDOT-DTS) announces the winning entries in the statewide 2009 Be A Buckle Buddy! PSA contest. Illinois State University Student Steven Suess (Reddick) won first place ($1,000) with his 60 second radio entry entitled “We are Buckle Buddies!”Eastern Illinois University student Kate Kelly (Danville) won second place ($500) with her 60 sec. radio entry, and Eastern Illinois University student Jonathan Pieczynski (Beecher) won third place ($250) with his 60 second radio entry. News conferences will be held on Wednesday April 29 at 10:00am at Room 016 in Fell Hall at Illinois State University, and Noon on Friday May 1 at the Radio & Television Conference Room in Buzzard Hall at Eastern Illinois University.
Radio and Television entries from five different colleges and universities were submitted in the second annual Be A Buckle Buddy! PSA contest. In addition to Illinois State University and Eastern Illinois University, Southern Illinois University, Lake Land College, and Waubonsee Community College participated.
A panel of ten judges comprised of representatives from Children’s Hospital of Illinois’ Advocacy Center, Administration Department, and Community Advisory Board, as well as representatives from IDOT-DTS judged blinded copies of each entry in the following six categories: Script Quality, Alignment with the Be A Buckle Buddy! Message, Production Quality, Talent Performance, and Overall Impression.
Be A Buckle Buddy! is a public education program featuring a statewide toll-free hotline that any concerned individual may call to anonymously report an unrestrained or improperly restrained child passenger traveling in a motor vehicle. The reported driver will receive an informational packet containing information about the program, child passenger safety practices, and state law regarding child passenger safety. No tickets are issued with this program, it is purely and educational program.
